Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. We are committed to ensuring that every one of these individuals has access to comprehensive health care, from preventative dental care to cancer treatment. Our clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health professionals work in more than 30 locations to serve some of our community’s most vulnerable—and most resilient—citizens.

We’re seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our team. In this fast-paced, patient-focused role, you’ll be a key support to our pharmacists, helping keep daily operations running smoothly. You’ll prepare, file, and label prescriptions with accuracy, assist patients by answering questions and dispensing medications, and proactively reach out to let patients know when their prescriptions are ready. Responsibilities:
  • Perform technical and dispensing tasks, including prescription preparation, inventory management, utilizing dispensing technology.
  • Relay to the patient or responsible person the pharmacist’s offer to counsel.
  • With the approval of the pharmacist on duty, request and accept authorizations for refills from a prescriber or a prescriber's agent provided that no information has changed from the previous prescription except over the telephone.
  • With the approval of the pharmacist on duty, assist in the transporting of Schedule II controlled substances.
Qualifications:
Experience and Education:
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
  • State licensure/registration.
  • Must complete a board approved training program or gain at least 500 hours or experience as a pharmacy technician trainee.
Basic Knowledge/Skills:
  • Experience managing multiple competing priorities; excellent prioritization skills Creating a safe and effective environment.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills including ability to analyze data to identify trends and communicate them through effective reporting methods.
  • Strong attention to detail; quality focused.
  • Excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills including experience presenting complex information to senior leaders.
  • Skilled in exercising initiative, integrity, judgement, discretion, and decision making to achieve objectives.
  • Quick learner with customer service mindset.
Desired Other Skills:
  • Familiarity with 340B program
  • Familiarity with adherence packaging and home delivery
  • Familiarity with the MassHealth ACO program
  • Familiarity with Federally Qualified Health Centers
Compensation and Benefits:
  • The compensation increases based on years of experience and ranges from $23.80 - $35.70 hourly.
